The Missouri Bar Foundation has awarded the 2021 Purcell Professionalism Award to lawyer, Scott S. Bethune. This award is given to lawyers who have demonstrated professionalism in their professional and civic activities.
“It has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my career to meet those outstanding individuals seeking a life of public service and see the quality judges that result from Missouri’s merit selection process,” Bethune said.
Mr. Bethune was nominated by The Missouri Bar Board of Governors and The Missouri Bar Foundation Board of Trustees for his outstanding integrity, civility, competency and selfless service as a practicing attorney over the past 30+ years.

DBJ Attorneys Grant L. Davis and Scott S. Bethune have been awarded inclusion in the inaugural edition of THE POWER LIST by Missouri Lawyers, focusing on personal injury lawyers who lead and influence various parts of the Missouri legal community.
Davis, Bethune & Jones founding member Grant L. Davis recently received an offer to join the prestigious Inner Circle of Advocates, an invitation-only group of the best plaintiff lawyers in the country.
For nearly 50 years, the Inner Circle of Advocates has upheld a mission “to promote the highest standards of courtroom competence and the mutual fellowship and exchange of knowledge among outstanding trial lawyers.” Invitations to the Inner Circle are awarded to plaintiff attorneys who have demonstrated outstanding performance and success in the courtroom.

Kansas City Business Journal’s 2017 “Best of the Bar” lists DBJ’s own Scott S. Bethune as one of the 48 area lawyers that applied or were nominated and were then vetted by a panel of judges. On June 23rd, Grant Davis received the Tom Strong Award at the Missouri Association of Trial Attorney’s annual banquet. The Thomas G. Strong Trial Attorney Award is an annual award that recognizes the Missouri attorney who best exemplifies the qualities of professionalism, ethics, character and courtroom success. On hand at the ceremony were Tom Strong, Steve Garner, MATA president-elect, Phillip Hess, the immediate past president of MATA, and Claire McCaskill, the United States Senator from the great state of Missouri.
Scott Bethune is a tireless advocate for the UMKC School of Law and the Law School Foundation. Scott and his firm, Davis, Bethune and Jones, have generously supported several major initiatives at the law school including the advocacy program and renovation of the E.E. (Tom) Thompson Courtroom. He has served as the Vice President of Development for the UMKC School of Law Foundation. Through the years, he has also served the bar community in a variety of prominent roles, including this year as President of KCMBA. He is an exceptional ambassador representing the best of the UMKC School of Law in Kansas City and beyond.
KCMBA’s Lawyers Encouraging Academic Performance (L.E.A.P.) celebrated its 20th year in 2014 with a record-breaking donation of $110,000 to Operation Breakthrough (bringing the cumulative total to more than $1.3 Million).
